I used tire chains frequently on my '86 900 here in Alaska. The regular ones worked OK at slow speeds (less than 35 mph), but occasionally would slip in towards the centerof the car on curves & really tear up the praking brake mechanism on the front wheels. Fortunatley no other damage was done, but I would imagine if you didn't stop quicky, damage could also get into the main brakes. Also, the extra links could, if not tied down properly, mess up the paint job around the wheel wells. I've seen it happen to others. Say hello to Bozeman Pass for me.
