Which Blizzak tread pattern? I find the Blizzak MZ-02 to have squirmy
dry handling, good wet handling, good (packed) snow traction and
excellent ice traction. The more I drive on _other_ winter
tires the more I keep coming back to these tires. Major downfalls
are traction in really deep snow and soft sidewall. Have had no
wear problems (I use them on my Impreza and drive it HARD).

The Blizzak WS-50's on my wife's 9-5 sound more like your tires,
squirmy dry handling, scary wet handling, good in loose snow,
passable on ice.

Wear on both has been excellent on my cars, but admittedly I
only run them when temps are low, as soon as it gets warm
(>=55F) I switch back to the all seasons.

Having just run TBird 2000 on studded Hakka 10's I have
to say they SUCK on ice compared to the MZ-02's
but are great on dirt/snow. The 10 is no longer made
in a wide variety of car sizes though. Performance on
packed snow was about the same as Blizzaks but much
better in the deep/loose stuff.

In fact my MZ-02's are two seasons old, have done a bunch
of miles to/from the Thunderbird 99 TSD rally, and
still have the original tread depth, I can't discern any
wear at all! I've probably only put 4,000 or so miles
on them though.

My major complaint is the soft sidewall.

If I had a choice between studded _anything_ and
Blizzaks I'd take the Blizzaks if ice was an issue.

For 'all around' winter performance driving
something like Pirelli winter ice or Michelin
Arctic Alpin or Pilot Alpin would be a better
choice. (Excellent wet/dry handling, stiff
sidewall, just a little better than an all season
tire on ice/snow).
