Take everything in the back out of the car; i.e. spare tire, car jack,
whatever other tools you might have back there, trunk cover, etc. At this
point I would also put the back seats down. Proceed to drive the car.
Still any clunks? You should be able to islotate the location of the sound
much better now. Don't forget to also check the exhaust. A hanger might
have come loose/broken which might cause the exhaust to bang against the
underside of the car. Also check tightness of the latch for the hatch.
Once the hatch is closed there should be no play when pulling up on that
hatch.
