There are different levels of "need", the first level is the dealer having to make a boat payment ;-), the second level is the "repair limit" for the pads (which is around 1/8 inch of material left), and the third level is when the pad material is gone and you can't stop.
Don't Saab OE pads now have the little warning tab that makes a screech when it's worn to that point? Are you at that point?
If it's a lease car going back to the dealer, I'd seriously consider just aftermarket pads - however, at one time, Saab's policy was if you wore out the pads during the warranty period, Saab would pay for new rotors if you paid to have the pads changed.
How many miles do you drive? Your safety is the #1 issue, your pocketbook is the #2 issue.
