After owning Saabs exclusively for the last 25 years, we entertained the idea for the last couple of years of a 2-seater convert for my wife, reasoning that the kids are grown and she enjoys my 911 Porsche. We got an extremely good deal on a very low mileage BMW Z4 (known history and driven & maintained well) and so, took the plunge, 18 inch BBS wheels, silver, black interior...actually a very good looking car. After owning the car for four months I can honestly say, what an exercise in mediocroty this car is. Problem after problem after problem.....this coupled by extremely mediocre tech work at the dealer, breaking one or two items during each of my eight warranty visits that had nothing to do with my original visit, scratching the dash facia, replacing it, breaking the gas door hinge, replacing it, breaking the gas door lock, replacing it, replacing the radio, again scratching the dash and replacing it again (creating a giant rattle while they were in there), and belive me, the list goes on and on and on. Then I noticed that for the last six weeks, my wife wasn't even using the car. When I questioned her about this, she lamented, "Why did we ever stray from Saab?", relating that we've been treated so well by Saab service and the mechanics always did the job right. On Saturday, after four months of ownership, we sold the car....someone will get a decent car, but it ain't no Saab.
Sitting in the garage now is a black 9-3SS Aero, parchament sport seats, 6-speed, every option. What a nice car.....I can't wrestle it away from her because she's finding every excuse to "run an errand." Everyone's making out here....I get her souped-up OG9-3, my kid is taking my NG900, and my sister is getting my kid's 86 900 which was my wife's brand new car almost 21 years ago (although we all love that 86 and don't want to get rid of it due to emotional attachment).
I didn't get hurt too badly getting rid of the Z4, but it was more than worth it to have my wife happy again about what she's driving. If I ever contemplate a non-Saab purchase, please, SOMEBODY SLAP ME!!!!
