Just a thought...I like having both, and see the strengths and weaknesses of both.
I have an '03 9-5 Aero wagon (auto) and an '06 9-3 Aero convertible (manual). I've had no issues with my 9-3...figured three years into the development cycle they've worked out most of the bugs and my around town mileage is improving now too. So far, it's tight, although I do get a plasticky creak around the steering column once and a while. That being said, the 9-3's chassis and suspension is one of the best FWD platforms I've ever driven. They REALLY got it right! I did spend a lot of money upgrading the crappy stereo though.
My 9-5 seems like it's better quality all around..the leather, the dash, etc. The Harmon Kardon stereo is outstanding in it too.
The '03s had the most luxury features as Saab started de-contenting them a bit in '04 and '05.
Cheers,
Paul H.
