There are only a couple oils available in the US that meet the GM spec. The most readily available one is Mobil 1 0w40. You can also find a Euro Castrol 0w30 at some Autozone stores. That's about it.
As far as the change interval goes, do whatever you want. The oil is good enough to last 10,000 miles, but many don't feel comfortable with that. You will not be able to reset the oil info in the SID until the service indicator comes on (unless you have the dealer do it with Tech II).
