Part of the reason may be that the ring that fits down over the anchor really doesnt fit tightly. If it doenst fit tight then its putting pressure on it when its sliding around under your foot. Im guessing the plugs are the same from year to year - the rubber mats fit snuggly over the plug and dont move so there is no lateral pressure on the plugs and that may help. Addtionally, they entend further back from the plugs for extra protection closer to the seat bottom. Pull em out and hose them off which is nice for winter/beach. Ive had three Saabs and everytime I buy one I make the dealer throw in the rubber mats at sale. Go by the dealer and see if they have a pair you can try on for size.
