At least they didn't claim that oil consumption 'normal for Saabs'.
I would contact (any Saab) dealer to obtain the IRIS report (details warranty work) to see if this problem was addressed under warranty.
Might also show if oil changes were on schedule(tho many COULD have been done outside dealer).
Collect as much of a paper trail on this motor as possible.
Worst case is your motor fell victim to lax maintenance or the original outrageous OC intervals of 15K miles.
