I have to agree regarding the Dunlop Winter Sport M3. They're really just a sporty all season tire with a winter edge. In the wet and dry, they are better than my stock Pirelli P6. In the snow, they are just OK and in the ice, it's possibly better than an all season but it's hard to tell.
The M3 is also smoother than than the Pirellis with better lateral grip and feel. nice. A great winter tire but just "ok" in the snow and ice.
I used to have Nokian Hakka 2's. They were excellent and amazing on the ice with the studs. They were a little squirmy in the dry and the studs were loud but for the snow... wow.
If I had to choose? I'd choose the better winter traction and just drive more normal in the good weather. The studded Hakkas are really that good in the snow and ice but, again, there's a tradeoff. If I lived closer to the coast and possibly further south in NE, then the M3 would be my choice.
Good luck.
