I purchased an '06 9-3 Aero SS in Steel Gray Metallic with gray leather interior in CT last week for $18K. It has 16K miles on it, basically a brand-new Saab for less than 1/2 the original price! It still has 7 months left on the free-maintenance program. It is mint all around and came equipped with most of the options (minus the nav system).
I was also leery about making this purchase as I'm a diehard fan of the classics and currently own a '98 9000CSE and a '93 900T convertible. I'm a DIY'er with them as well, having tweaked the power of the 9000 to Stage 3 and the 900 to an SPG. Since the '06 has the all-new Saab turbo V6, I know absolutely nothing about this engine and am hoping to gain knowledge on it from this board.
From what I've read here and elsewhere, the '06 is a better pick than the older 9-3's, though the turbo V6 was brand new that year so we're taking a gamble that it won't have it's share of problems since it's the debut year.
I also had the place where I purchased the car from provide me with a CarFax report as well as the IRIS from their local Saab dealer. The IRIS shows all warranty work perfomed at any Saab dealership as well as factory campaign services performed. When I purchased my used 9000 over 7 years ago, I asked my local Saab dealer for the IRIS and they were happy to give it to me.
I'm thoroughly enjoying my ride, as will you, too. Good luck!
Joe
