I live in Ottawa, Canada, and I bought an 06 convertible last year in the US. The car only had 22,000 miles, and was first titled 22 months prior to me buying it, so there was lots of Saab warranty left. It was an easy process importing the car into Canada, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I brought the car into my local Saab dealer for an oil change, and when asking about warranty work, I was also told the same thing. I was not given the option of reprogramming into km from miles, but was told that for the car to obtain warranty work at no charge, my instrument cluster would have to be changed at a cost of $1,100 to $1,200. Talk about a "cash grab". If the car has 30,000 miles on it, it does not take a rocket scientist to know that it has 50,000 km. I have not done the change. I also spoke with GM Canada, and they reinforced what the dealer said. I wonder if an American Saab dealer would do warranty work on my car, since Syracuse is less than a 3 hour drive. In your case, Buffalo is not far. My way of thiking is that if there is a major warranty issue (hopefully there will not be), I will change the instrument cluster, then have the warranty work done. Please let me know if you find out more information about reprogramming into km from miles. My dealer told me that this cannot be done. So far the car has been excellent with no issues other than the rear brakes wearing out at 30,000 miles. I am really enjoying this car and can see myself driving Saab convertibles for many years to come.
