My wife's VW has a very nice soft textured plastic on the dash - its kind of a hatch work thing. While giving a nicer feel when new I wonder how well that will wear over time.
My last two cars were both '95s: a Honda Accord EX and a Jeep Cherokee Sport. The Honda interior was virtually indistinguishable from the higher end Acura Legend. It really looked and felt classy. The Jeep... well... not so much! About as cheap feeling as it comes, but then again it was cheap and rough and that's just what it was.
Fast forward to 2009 - 14 years later. The Honda interior held up until about 2003 when it rapidly fell apart due to sun and heat. The "wood" grain pieces curled or fell off. The nice beige color showed dirt in high contact areas. The leather seats cracked and split. The paint fogged. The engine was fine (although all the rubber bits were either replaced or in need of replacement).
The Jeep however still sits in the drive way. It is in remarkable shape. Still cheap and crappy but the plastic would survive a nuclear blast.
