If you are in NC, you must decide whether you want summer performance tires or all season tires. All seasons will get you through cold weather. Summer tires will be slippery around 37F. In NC, it does get that cold. All seasons may not get you through light snow, but you have to be a tire fan to want to get snow tires for NC.
Another possibility is all seasons for winter and summer tires for every other season. That would be for the performance driver who doesn't want the very safest tire for the rare snowfalls.
I presume that the original poster only wants 1 set of tires so it should be all seasons.
With that in mind, how are Goodyear Eagle GT tires? Or Dunlop SP Sport Signature? Or BF Goodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S? Or Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position?
Michelin tends to be more expensive. Dunlop and Yokohama tends to be slightly cheaper for the same performance. Kumho and Hankook are the upstarts, like Hyundai. Hyundai does make an expensive car, the Genesis. Likewise, Kumho makes some more expensive tires.
Barum is a Czech brand owned by Continental. I heard that cheapskates buy this sometimes.
