~52,000 miles - output speed sensor failed - replaced at dealer
~52,100 miles - input speed sensor failed - replaced at dealer
~58,000 miles - transmission begins slipping
Dealer says Saab recommends to swap the whole transmission (obviously very pricey at the dealer). Warranty will be 12 months / 12,000 miles
Local indy transmission repair thinks they can save 20% - 50% over dealer cost by rebuilding. Same 12 month / 12,000 mile warranty.
However, I can get a used transmission through http://www.everdrive.com for $2499 (with free shipping and no tax). Warranty is 36 months / unlimited mileage. (Although, it would a severe pain to claim that warranty if necessary.)
Thoughts anyone?!? Anyone have any experience with rebuilding one of these units. Suspect that coolant must have contaminated transmission fluid despite the "quick coupling" service being performed.
GM/Saab refused to stand behind their product despite this being a known issue with the 03/04 model years. I have vowed to never again purchase any GM product. Wish that my tax dollars weren't going to support them. But, for the time being ... I'm stuck with it.
Needless to say, I am one very unhappy Saab/GM customer.
