The 'check engine light' as come on twice in the last two weeks on my 2003 SAAB 9-3. The independent mechanic has addressed the issue each time, however, I'm concerned that the problem may not have been addressed to prevent it from occurring again. Both times the computer indicated code "P 0300 (random multiple misfire detected). After the first occurrence, the mechanic changed the spark plugs because he found that each cylinder had misfired. (FYI, the spark plugs were changed less than a year ago due to a 'check engine light' issue). In addition, he found that the monitor fuel trim, air flow meter reading and throttle body operation, and ignition coils were all OK.
Now after the second recent occurrence, he found the same computer code and that all cylinders misfired with the 3rd misfiring the highest. In addition, he found that the following were OK: ignition coil, ignition module, ionization detection module, compression, cylinder leakage, short fuel trim, long fuel trim. The fuel pressure at idle was 2.6 bar, 3 bar minimum which did not conform to specification. A slight carbon deposit was identified and accumulated deposits were removed from the EGR port, fuel induction system, air intake system and combustion chambers.
My sense is that he's not certain that he's corrected the underlying problem..and quite frankly, I don't want this to be a continuing (and expensive) problem. My question is: what else could trigger the 'check engine light? Your valuable input will be appreciated. Thanks.
