What car owners needs to wake up to and realize is that it rarely takes 10 min to diagnose an electrical problem (even with factory scan tools) and that a multi thousand dollar scan tool with annual thousand dollar upgrades are needed to stay on top of each new car model.
The other approach is to forget about diagnosing the problem and instead replacing parts as fast as possible in hopes to hit the right part as soon as possible before the swapping of parts comes up to more dollars than the proper diagnose and replacement of the right part the first time.
Seat heater grids has been breaking ever since they were introduced in the seats long time ago so it is a fairly good chance that's what it is.
If even 10 min is too much of diagnostic time you need to learn the system and use a volt meter and test light yourself to check the basic things first like power and ground.
The tricky part is to first find a wiring diagram and then figure out what's suppose be present in which wire at certain times. Not impossibles in any means but it takes some time.
I wouldn't be able to measure things by heart but would need to sit down with the wiring diagram first to see what's in there.
If the guy with the lunch box have a fairly new one, he might be able to read a CAN car but if it is old, it might not work.
