Halogen Headlamps into Xenon Car

Walter bought an '03 Arc with some front end damage, and we didn't have an extra set of Xenon headlamp assemblies, and used ones are often very expensive ($600/pair+) so we re-used a pair of halogen assemblies.
I have a feeling as these get older other people may run into this issue, so this is how I did ours:
If you just plug them in they work fine, but you get the SID chime and 'HEADLAMP LEVELING MALFUNCTION' warning when you start the car.
I tried re-programming the UEC to have Halogens instead of Xenons, took the change fine, but still got the malfunction warning.
Then pulled fuse 19 in the main underhood fuse panel alongside the battery, which should have killed power to the headlamp leveling computer and removed it from the bus (so the car just doesn't see it) but still got the warning.
THEN I unplugged the headlamp leveling control module entirely and just left the harness dangling - BINGO, works like a charm. The headlamp leveling control module is screwed to the driver's side inner fender, sort of wedged between the main fuse panel and the body of the car. It's a black Hella computer about 4" square, just un-plug it.
No more warning message, and the Halogen's work perfectly.
Best,
Drew
