What they are trying to say is that the steering wheel can only go on the steering shaft one way and can't be rotated on the steering shaft relative to the front wheels. When the steering wheel moves, the steering shaft moves and the steering shaft moves the steering rack. On each side of the steering rack are tie rods. Each tie rod has an adjustment. To center your steering wheel, the tie rod on one side of the steering rack needs to be adjusted to bring that tire/wheel in, and the tie rod on the other side of the steering rack needs to be adjusted in the opposite direction to bring that tire/wheel out. It's true that your current alignment is correct, but not relative to the steering wheel. To align the steering wheel, they have to realign the car. There's no way around it. Whether you have to pay for an alighnment, is another story... Ron
