Hi John, thanks for answering me, sort of...
I understand the book time applies to the guys who R&R certain parts 8 hours a day 5 days a week. If I were to R&R the tranny myself, never having done a front wheel drive tranny, I would say give me about a week. However, I'm interested in knowing what the book time is so I can get an idea what my indie will end up charging me, assuming he charges me 1.5 times book.
I recently bought a 2004 9.3 knowing it had some problems. Looks like the tranny is the core of those problems. A few days ago I got a Transmission Malfunction message several times, but it's gone now.
I checked the coolant reservoir for contamination on the premise that if the radiator failed at least some ATF would find its way up to the reservoir. The coolant looks exactly like orange drink with no pink pepto-bismol creamy appearance and no oily feel.
So I'm getting ready to get a boneyard transmission and have my indie do the swap, knowing that Saab gets $6,000 plus for said job. I'd like to bring it in for around $1,200. That would allow around $700 for labor. The indie is very good, and gets $100 an hour.
Thanks for your time,
Robert
