Stan had his car in at my shop and I witnessed the symptom exactly once, when I went to back it out of the lot.
He had just had it in for service at another shop and had them drain and fill the transmission fluid, and it was overfilled something like 1.0-1.2 qts., I drew some fluid out to get it back to normal level and let Stan take the car to see if symptom improved.
It feels exactly like the 5-speed AF33 in the 9-5's when the solenoids start to stick and it bangs into gear.
Only other one in a 9-3SS 4-cyl. I have felt do this was one of our shop beater cars that was an absolutely thrashed '03 Linear, banged hard into D and R, and sometimes had a hard 1-2 and 2-1 shift, but otherwise always drove and shifted OK, didn't slip, didn't throw any codes.
I changed the fluid I think twice and replace both input and output speed sensors trying to cure it but didn't have any effect.
I tried to break the trans or at least get it to change symptom as a learning experience to advise my customers, but it never got any worse, car was rear-ended by a motorcyclist and totalled out before the trans gave up.
