I was reluctant to remove the blade assembly with airfoil, as the foil is designed to be effective at roadspeeds in foul weather, and is probably especially effective in crosswinds. When I lived in Europe, features like blade foils and rear fog lamps were keys to highway trips in rainy, foggy weather, and important to comfort and safety. So, I generally like foils.
However, based on responses to my original posting -- thanks to all -- I replaced the OEM wipers with Bosch Marathon beam-type units. A test with the windshield washers was encouraging. Will get a chance to find out, as rain and wintry mix is in the forecast here.
I saved the old assemblies in case it turns out that replacing with OEM blades is dictated by events. I note that Delco apparently sells blade assemblies with a foil.
The need to go back to OEM, I hope, will become moot with the beam-type blades.
