Sam:
Call me old school but if the car drives fine, don't worry about the shocks. I guess you coulda change them if you are looking for performance but as a daily driver, my girl has 186k original and that includes many cross country trips going very fast on not so smooth western interstates and she still does fine. That also includes ugrad and grad school with numerous annoying speed bumps. I say stick with your latter thought.
