"Pull out key, turn steering wheel. Restart"

I left the key in the ignition over the weekend. It drained the battery. The key will not turn and this error message appears. Repeated attempts to remove the key, turn the wheel and restart failed. The steering lock is not engaged. I recharged the battery with the charger on low and no change. I disconnected the battery and touched the cables together attempting to reset the electronics. No change. Anyone got any ideas?
