The main problem with AMP1 in the sedans and combi's is it's location. If it's raining hard and you open the door to get in or out of the car, rainwater will go in thru the exposed vents atop the amp and often fry it. That's what happened to mine when the car was 4 months old; fortunately it was replaced under warranty. SInce then, I leave a small towel beneath the front seat that I can cover the edge of the amp with (along the seat track) prior to opening the door in the rain. In your vert. I believe one of the amps is located below the left-rear window and I have not heard of many of those failing. I wonder how well they sheltered it from water in that location? Is your amp1 under the driver's seat or is it the one below the l.r. window?
In 2007, the 9-3's got the standard GM radio that's used in most GM cars. Nothing special, but far more reliable. The 2003-2006 9-3's use a fiber-optic coupling between the head unit and the amps which provides a noise-free link at the expense of making upgrades more costly.
You can send your amp for repair at saabradio.com and sometimes you can find one on ebay.
