I have the same car with a 6 sp. manual. So far in the first 6K miles, here are my first impressions. My other car is a '07 9-5 Aero, so i'm using it for comparison:
- EXCELLENT handling...not a light car, but very agile and has incredible grip.
- Comfortable interior - better put together than my 9-5.
- Avg MPG is around 22.5. Not great, but my commute is a good mix of highway and city, and I describe my driving style as "spirited". On long highway trips, I average about 29 at 75mph.
- Acceleration is ok - it's down 50hp from my 9-5, and I can definitely feel it. 210hp + an AWD drivetrain does take its toll, but that's nothing a $900 Maptun/BSR/Nordic/JZW/Hirsch tune won't fix.
- Hate that the B207R requires 6L of oil and a cumbersome drop-in filter compared to the B235R which has 50 more HP, requires 4L, and has a traditional oil filter (thanks GM!)
- 6sp is kinda notchy until it warms up - not a Porsche or a Mazda, but gets the job done just fine! Added GS shift linkage stiffener, and that helped a great deal. ($40) Think I might add their shift bushings ($20) as well. Cheap and effective fixes.
Only problem so far is my fuel tank - as the car sat for a while at the dealer, and the XWD has a saddle tank with an internal mechanical fuel pump for transporting gas from one side of the tank to the other, my thoughts are that the mechanical pump got gummed up and was having problems transporting gas, leaving me to have a strange check engine light. After talking with Saab directly, this is a rare problem, but it has happened before. I'm in the process of running some Chemtool B12 through the tank to get the mechanism running again. Everything else i've read on the XWD system is that it is well-sorted - they found some leaks in the '08 models and performed recalls, but that's about it. Just make sure you change the rear diff fluid at 20K miles.
Hope that helps!
