Hello All,
Recently I have started experiencing an intermittent check engine light. It typically comes on in the morning once I have started driving. It has been cold around here recently.
I started noticing it in late October or early November. The check engine light did not come on until about two weeks ago. It usually stays on for part of the day and then goes away. It comes on every few days.
What is happening is the following. The boost between 2500 and 3500 sometimes even 4000, the boost gauge will start fluctuating (moving back and forth) instead of staying steady as it should. Sometimes when the cel comes on, the car is sent into "limp home" mode. God to I HATE that feature. Although its good since it prevents you from blowing up your car...hahaha. It is also much more evident when running Regular gas. I try to run exclusively Premium. Regardless it has only gone into limp home mode three times and is usually for the first on/off cycle that the CEL came on. Once the car is warmed up it seems to run fine. The issue is FAR MORE evident when the vehicle is cold and coming up to temperature.
Apparently one of those codes means there is an ECU fault. While the other deals with the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS); don't really know what it means though. The codes are P1681 (ECU fault) and P2135 (TPS fault).
Recently, I haven't been running much fuel in my tank (shame on me) so my Dad thought it was related to moisture in the tank. So I filled it with Premium gas and have put 2 bottles of dry gas in it. I also put in a bottle of Techron by Chevron (great stuff, BTW). I have also cleaned the throttle body. Should the throttle body flap sit flat or at a slight angle when the car is off? Mine seems to sit at a slight angle. I also re-gapped my plugs.
What is the matter with my car? What do I need to do to fix it? Do I need a new throttle body? Or could I get away with a new or used TPS? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks guys!
