There was/is an issue with the Tech 2 confusing the cylinder numbers on the 2.8T when giving misfire codes. I just replace all 6 coils and plugs every time I get one, that way we know it's good and the customer has peace of mind knowing they're not going to have to come back over and over again in the next year or two replacing coils.
Also, start with the fuel pressure sensor by the manifold, then fuel pump. Much cheaper. I've seen that sensor fix the error code on some cars.
When doing the coils always a good idea to do a compressor check on the 2.8T as well to make sure you're not having any valve issues.
