Alex,
The solution, if your car is still under warranty, is to replace the whole mecanism that is on top of the gearbox. That's what my dealer will do when he can get a replacement part from Saab/GM (it is backordered now).
Part is 55561689 (http://www.saabusaparts.com/product-p/55561689.htm) according to EPC. This is the one for my 08 XWD.
For the FWD cars, part is #55556311, from 03 to 11.
But if you are a bit handy, don't spend 300$ for another part. With the part out of the car, I'm quite sure one can bore the bushings by a few thousands to let the stainless steel shaft move more easily. That's what I would have done if this was not covered by the warranty.
Also, one UK supplier offers a kit to rebuilt the shifter.

I don't know it it fits my XWD car, but it does fit any 6 speed for FWD cars
