I tried to respond to your e-mail but it kicked back so I copy it here plus some answers to this post.

Hi Anders,
Question about my troubled steering column lock module on our 2003 9-3
Linear(Saab part # 12805196). This part is very expensive new and elusive on its own used. Do you think a complete steering column from a salvage yard would include the module? Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Chris

Hi

I have successfully used the 05 and up SCL but you do need to upgrade the CIM to the latest software for it to work.

The 05 SCL is about half the cost of the 03-04
I doubt a junk yard would include the SCL with a steering column but they probably sell that part separate.

Oh, now I see you are talking about the CIM (12805196) not the steering column lock module.
A used CIM will only work if you get the remote with it.
But you don't list the latest p/n for the CIM and the new p/n 12847563 is less at around $420.00

Good luck

Anders

And yes, you can get a used CIM with matching remote and add to your car but your old remote will be dead. It is also some limitations that the Saab shop hopefully will know about in how different years used parts may create different headache problems but if they are all up to par, they should be able to handle it.

If you splurge for a brand new CIM, you can use your old remotes when adding it to the car.
