My car's Ecotec is running fine, thanks, but I am just curious if anyone ever figured out precisely why the Ecotec balance shaft tensioner guide breaks in two. The problem has been discussed on this board a bit, but it appears to be a huge issue for the early Ecotecs powering Saturns and Chevies. The photo posted by Chadwick last year seems identical to those posted on other Ecotec sites - they all seem to break at nearly the same spot each time. Just curious if the failure can be linked to a particular driving style, or if it is just bad luck/bad plastic.
