i have posted this before, but never really had any good answers so i am going to try to describe the issue again in hopes i say something different that triggers an idea from the group...
2006 9-3 aero at about 85k miles now. i am having a recurring issue related to the the speedo display. what happens under normal driving conditions is:
1. normal operation of everything.
2. dash (speedo, tach, etc) all goes blank, HUD (top of dash) blanks out as well. this occurs all at once.
3. dash comes alive like the car has just been started (all needles swing the full range and back down, lights come up) - HUD shows message "Checking..." the red ring around the onstart bulb on the dash flashes 3 times in succession of 3 times. if high beam headlights were on, they go off at the same time the dash goes out but they don't come back on high, just stay on normal. otherwise, all other operations are normal, headlights stay on, radio stays on, engine and ignition stays on. when the dash settles back to normal conditions, the HUD reads "Check ok".
4. many times after #3 above occurs, as soon as the "Check ok" message clears and then radio station, etc is displayed back on the HUD, the same thing happens again (meaning #2 and then #3 happen again).
i have tried wiggling the key in the ignition, tapping on the dash, side of center console, etc, but i can not get the situation to repeat - it seems to occur in a completely random fashion. the only thing different that happened tonight was after a few of these cycles when driving home, in put on my left turn signal and got the "quick flashing" that generally occurs when a bulb is out - but once the car was restarted, this issue cleared.
if a connection was loose, i feel like this issue would only occur when i hit bumps or something cause shaking, but that doesnt seem to cause it.
this was happening a few months ago and then issue dissappeared until last week - started doing again randomly.
i have a video of this happening - if someone has some way to post, i'm happy to send it along.
any thoughts?
thanks again.
kooch.
