Given I've seen several similar responses I'd have to suggest some of those respondents have never seen the IIHS side impact tests. The car does lean on impact but does not go mid-roll and the rollover protection IS deployed.
So the sensor which appear to be part of the airbag system appears to be based on a contact switch and/or an accelerometer (of which there is one on each side of the car).
You'll also note the dummys head moves laterally in the side impact thus very much in the line of fire. As soon as I find a source of WIS and the EPC I'll continue my research and also have to check if the rollover is inhibited when the top is up as that might be the only real solution.
Cheers.
