What was the result of your single muffler experiment/ I am currently running a Maganaflow on the drivers side and the OEM muffler on the passenger side of an otherwise stock V6 xwd. I have also wondered about the internal construction of the last box that splits the 2.5 inch exhaust to feed the two mufflers. I am very interested in the sound if we upgrade to a 3" pipe and use a single exhaust. I would still replicate the factory resonator, but it seems that a single exhaust system would be preferable from a performance perspective. It was interesting to hear about the different chamber sizes in the stock exhaust. I suspect this provides acoustic noise cancellation. While a clever way to reduce the exhaust noise level, it may not serve those wanting a more sporting exhaust tone. I believe the magnaflow rear muffler is deeper and louder than the stock exhaust. I am, however, getting an annoying drone at 2300 rpm.
