release catch trouble during shifter cable adjustment Posted by iveand [Email] (#3155) [Profile/Gallery] (more from iveand) on Fri, 19 Jan 2024 10:04:22 In Reply to: Re: Clarification - Update, Bernie [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 7 May 2023 14:59:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I am now attempting to adjust the shifter gear cables according to WIS. But I am nervous I am going to break the plastic adjustment catches on the cables inside underneath the shifter in attempting to release them into "adjustment mode". WIS says to push down (I assume in the slot) and gently pry toward the shifter (so toward the back of the car), but I can't get them to budge. I am afraid of 18 year old brittle plastic and don't want to break them.
Any tips? It could be the cold weather. I am in my garage but it is only 45 in here. Maybe I need to put this off until warmer weather?
Since the main issue is I need to rattle it to find 2nd gear (coming from 1st or 3rd), I am wondering if a bushing in the shifter tower on top the tranny is the cause? I see some youtube vids on people boring out a worn nylon bushing and replacing with a metal one on the actual linkage assembly. Thoughts?
