[ALTERNATIVELY, you can use a Tech2 with security access to program the replacement ECM to your car, but most people have a laptop but no Tech2.]
If you get a used ECU from the wrong engine, eg, an ECU from B207L installed in a B207R or vice verse you will end up with short and long term fuel mixture issues.
And if it is a 2003 ECU that used SAI, you might end up with SAI codes if installed in a 2004 and up.
Very rarely does the Tech 2 with security access and doing SPS change the software but it usually brick the ECU. Sometimes, if you are lucky, you might be able to shove another SPS in there going between TIS2000 and Tis2web over and over again and by pure luck it suddenly "takes".
