The first time, I had no choice, as it was the blackout of 2003 (august) and I was trying to make it home (was about 3 miles short)...
The 2nd time, I was coming home from a long trip and didn't want to gas up in the bad part of town (live near detroit...) and from "experience", I figure I had ~10 miles to go. (un)Luckily, I started studdering at 17 miles to empty (according to DTE) just as I was pulling into the gas station. I guess it was sorta bad luck that the gas station entrance was on a long uphill driveway that choked my car.
So now, I don't let it below ~40miles DTE...
