When you replace the heater knobs, put a ring of JB weld around the outer knob shank. I did that on the last replacement. My theory is that this will reinforce the nylon to help prevent cracking in the future. You could also wrap the shank with a layer of solid wire, the length of the shank,(so it looks like a tight spring when you are done), then JB weld the whole layer. I'll bet that sucker would last the length of your ownership!
