I've not even had the DIC happen yet (knock on wood, after 77k miles and 5.5 years), and I don't really worry about it too much.
But.....
it does leave you stranded, and may leave you with a dead engine on the freeway traveling at speed, and it does seem to happen a lot and there has been no cure...
In this day and age, the mindboggling thing is a car that's not drop dead reliable.
