I have a 2000 9-5 Aero that no has over 246K miles. I've been driving it 48K miles/year, primarily interstate highways. Nothing other than normal maintenance has ever been required.
Regarding the 2001 Aero: If you stick with Saab's maintenance program you should be able to get another 200K miles out of the Aero. I've always changed the oil and filter every 5K miles. If the Aero's records show that it has been maintained, and a good inspection shows that it hasen't been in an accident, I think this could be a good deal.
Regarding the 2001 SE: If it has a V6, I have no idea regarding life expectancy. The big plus is that it may have 7K miles of factory warranty left.
Regarding a 2002 or newer Aero: A lot of changes were made for 2002 over the 2001. More horsepower, real Aero seats, improved suspension, and Xenon headlights. None of these changes can be added to a 2001 (or 2000) easily and/or inexpensively. Obviously, a 2002 or newer Aero will be more expensive. In exchange you'll be able to pick up more factory warranty easily
