If the cost of repairs is your concern, you can make a lot of expensive repairs for just the cost of 6 months of payments. Or 6 months depreciation.
It is almost always cheaper to drive a car until the wheels fall off than to buy any replacement.
So, figure your monthly payment, put 6 months of that money into a separate account for repairs, keep the car and you will be lots of bucks ahead. But also, according to my mechanic, after you go over 50K, take some of that money and buy a DI casssette (eEuroparts.com may be the cheapest source?) and put that and appropriate tools and a flashlight in your trunk and you'll be all set.
