Excellent details, TKC. I'm with you on all counts.
Though it may be obvious, folks also may want to use extra caution and be very possessive of the 4 Torx screws, in case you have already loosened them when doing the disconnect. No, I've never lost any, but shiver at the thought of blowing it by dropping one into the chamber, engine area, etc. It may help to leave everything tightened when detaching or attaching the harness--that's up to you.
Also, as has been answered here, those are supposedly #30 Torx. I picked up a spare driver set (for about $3) at a discount chain, just to keep handy in the trunk with the spare DI . . . which I happened to install just last week at about 53,000 mi on my '01 4-cyl.--the original DI was starting to kight up the CEL and set misfire codes, and even after installing new plugs, persisted. I guess this was the new T7 software giving fair warning of failure. I didn't hesistate in replacing the old DIC with a brand-new, current model. There are slight design changes on the casting and numbers, and presumably it's state-of-the-art like the 2003+ model years. Let's hope so, at least!
