Everybody is now going to say: AC compressor and it is likely that it is going bad. Mine is also quite loud when I'm in the car. Can't realy hear the whine when I'm looking / listening under the hood. In my car the mayor whine also goes away when I switch off the ACC.
The noise from the compressor can only 'escape' from the compressor in three ways:
-through the mounting to the engine but the engine mountings should take care of that since the compressor is a lot less noisy than the engine
-through the hoses coupling the vibrations mechanically into the chassis
-through vibrations in the fluid causing the ventilation unit inside the car to vibrate (ok, probably a bit far fetched)
Does anybody have an idea which mechanisme is at work in the 9-5?
My 9000 has no problem with noisy compressors. OK it's a different type but seems to have less mechanical coupling to the chassis through the hoses.
Is a good compressor inaudible in a 9-5?
