Oh, hi. I didn't know it was you when I responded.
The CMP sensor is what I call a virtual sensor built into the IDM compared to the CKP (CranK shaft Position)sensor which is a seperate sensor mounted on the engine block. That's why the probable cause for that P0340 code is a bad cassette if the plugs are new.
If you do a search for those codes on the NG900/9-3 board (the 2000 and up 9-3 have the same fuel system) you will find more info and fodder for that the IDM is the most likely culprit.
Yes, since you have the new software it is nothing more than to plop an new cassette in there and if the codes goes away you have saved yourself from a breakdown further down the road.
You can then keep the old as an emergency backup part if the would ever fail.
