In July, my sources at Saab told me that they would show
1. Sportscar prototype
2. AWD 9-5 Wagon
3. 300 hp 9-5
As it seems, he was not totally right.

The sportscar prototype was of course the 9-X. He now tells me that he was confused by the information he got. It turned out that it was all in the same car (the 9-X has AWD and 300hp).

The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet today has an article on a coming Saab 9-5 Viggen. It says that Saab has prototyped AWD and 350 hp in a 9-5, but found a lot of difficulties. As you have all pointed out before, the modifications would be too expensive to make a 4WD out of the 9-5. And the 350 hp is too much for front wheel drive. Also the 300hp prototype they developed has problems to get the power to the ground.

According to the newspaper, Saab has decided on a 285 hp front wheel drive Viggen to be delivered next fall.
