Hmmm - -- I don't know how they installed your shifter. I did not do my installation in fear of getting my hands dirty (just joking) but I did read the intructions. Basically the actual wood part replaces just the leather covered outer surface. There is one part of the assembly that requires soldering. Because the sport button is removed from the old piece it needs to be re-soldered when the wood piece is installed. But there is not need to use a hacksaw or epoxy glue on the Saab catalog item.
