My first reaction is to check your speed. The biggest culprit you're fighting in my opinion is wind resisitence. I read somewher that wind resistence as a factor to mpg essentially doubles from 55 mph to 75 mph (or something to that effect).
When I set my cruise at 62 mph on long highway runs, I consistently get 30-32 mpg which works for me. Once I go past 65 mph, my mpg drops precipitously.
