I was relating to a friend that Saab builds their engines to withstand 600 hours of full power operation. I take this to mean WOT (wide open throttle), near redline. The more I thought about this, the more impressive it is and the harder it is to really believe!
Can we back this up? I'd love to!
Isn't 5th gear at redline on my Aero around 150-160 mph? If so, and my interpretation is correct, then 600 hours * 150 mph = 90,000 miles. The earth has a circumference of ~25000 miles (26,xxx isn't it really?). So, I could, in theory and ignoring many other environmental issues, run WOT around the earth 3.6 times? Wow!
Put another way, I could drive this thing WOT for 25 straight days? Wow! We did something comparable at Talladega but that was only 25,000 miles.
I'd love to back this up and use it in my explanation to the next person that rides with me and cringes when I run myself up to redline (which is frequent but only after adequate warm up and ALWAYS with good fluids).
