The 2002 9-5 Aero has the same torque as the 2001 in the manual transmission cars, but the new five speed auto is upgraded to that same level,258 lb.ft. From the sounds of your dilemma between the 230 rated hp Aero, and the 240 hp Altima, it sounds like there is only one car that you will be happy with...Jogn Force's 6,500 hp Funny Car! Really, how can you differentiate between the Saab and the Nissan, and when all is said and done, end up fixating on the fact that one has ten horse more than the other? Weren't there any other significant differences between these cars that stuck with you? It could be that in certain areas the Nissan was judged to be superior. I am a Saab fan, but get pretty frustrated waiting for the slow as s_it power windows to go up.I'd be the first to admit that Saab needs some lessons on center console design. I could also live quite well with the key on the column, and do not buy the argument that the console is the nest place for it. As for the night panel being "AIRCRAFT INSPIRED", in instrument flying, this would be known as partial panel failure. Not everything the Swedes do is perfect, but on balance, they put together a pretty fine car. When looking at these two vehicles in the big picture, I find it hard to come to the conclusion that the thing that separates them is ten horsepower.
The 2002 Aero is one fine and pretty fast vehicle. It's performance off the line is better than the 01 due to gearing. And the transmission is the smoothest shifting you will find. By the way, if some idiot in a 6,000 pound SUV happens to pile into me,for any reason, I'll take my chances in the 9-5 over the Altima any day.
