yes ,they take money out of your wallet and enrich others with great ideas .
but,the answer is no.
if you are going racing ,and are going to exceed 185mph ,and the wing is tuned for the track where you are racing ,preferably an oval one, yes .
if you are racing in say backroads , or open road circuits in europe no ,unless you have a wing computer activated for different driving conditions.and ,or ,the car requires downforce applied at specific mph to assure better traction.
and ,it also depends on the aerodynamics of the car.
the spoiler on the back of the 911 deploys at 75 mph but it is not really effective until about 135 or more mph when the down force in the rear wheel drive car is required.
in the roof of a station wagon it may help offset the karman effect and keep your rear window clean at a slight cost in mpg.
now, if you want a wannabe looker ,go ahead and splurge .
the young kids will eat it up.
